Mark is the founder and Artistic Director of Scheherazade Theatre. He has won awards as a stage director (Western Massachusetts CTA Drama Festival, 2003), filmmaker (Brooklyn Arts and Culture Association, 1982), and poet (T.S. Eliot Poetry Prize, Kent, U.K., 1988). Mark wrote and directed Scheherazade's inaugural production, The Catch. He has directed productions at CityStage, the Shea Theater, and PACE Theater in the Pioneer Valley, as well as at Simon’s Rock College in the Berkshires, where he is Visiting Assistant Professor in Theatre and Mythology. In 2006 he was a participating artist at La MaMa E.T.C.’s 7th Annual International Symposium for Directors in Umbria, Italy. Prior to that he served as a board member for Greenfield’s Arena Civic Theatre company. Mr. Vecchio’s other major interest is mythology, and he has led students from both Simon’s Rock College and New York University on numerous trips to England, Ireland, Mexico, and Greece and Turkey to study ancient culture and myth.
